Reception

We have lots of exciting things planned for your first year at school.

In Maths we will be learning all about numbers, counting by saying numbers, recognising numbers, counting objects and representing numbers. Later we will begin to add and subtract numbers.

We will also be learning about shapes, by recognising them all around and naming shapes.

 

We will begin our reading journey, by starting to learn phonics and segmenting and blending words. This will then help us to start to write sounds we know in words and later build up to writing lots of words to make a sentence. Please try to read with your child at least 3 times a week. Children will bring home their school reading book, but you can also read any books / children's magazines, comics or even signs and labels out and about. 

 

We have lots of fun topics to look forward to during our year, which we will leave as a surprise!!
