Dear Diary,

Yesterday, I had the most amazing time. It all started like any other normal day at school except we were going on a school trip. In the morning, I arrived at school early with my packed lunch and was feeling very excited.  We were going to learn all about the Egyptians. When we got there, we walked around with the knowledgeable guide who told us about all the different artefacts. Just then, we reached the Egyptian display and I spotted it… the scarab beetle.

This really caught my attention because it was so beautiful.  It had the most amazing colours that were shimmering in the light. As I was looking at it, something strange happened. It’s extended feelers started to come towards me. A few moments later, the rest of my class moved onto the next section but I just had to find out more about this beetle. That’s when it got really exciting…

I touched the beetle and all of a sudden, I was in a desert. It took me a while to work out where I was but then it dawned on me. As I looked around, I could see the vast pyramids that were standing proudly, the grand palm trees that were towering over me and then the glistening blue river that flowed past me. It was just then when I noticed a procession of angry looking men marching towards me. The one at the top was the scariest as he was wearing a jackal mask.

Near the back of the procession, was a stand and there was a stunning woman who was sitting proudly on the stand. Unfortunately, as she was moving past, she spotted me and pointed at me.  Before I knew it, I was running. I found a door in a pyramid and thought that might be a good place to hide. I ran through a passageway with only the torches to light the way. I could see carved images and hieroglyphs but I had no idea what they said. As I was trying to find a way out, I heard the angry men stomping and shouting…they were getting closer. At this point, I was shaking. I just wanted to get home.

Then I saw the beetle.  It looked just like the one in the museum, with the amazing colours and extended feelers. I touched it again. As I felt it nip me, I found myself back in the museum. I was trying to stop my head from spinning when Mrs Hardy came running up to me. She didn’t believe that I had been in Egypt so I just kept quiet on the way home. I wonder what kind of day I will have tomorrow?

Read the following passage about Jesus and the tax collector then answer the questions.

As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him.

While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate with him and his disciples. When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”

On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

Questions

What do you think Jesus meant by, 'It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick'?

Why do you think Jesus had dinner with the tax collectors and sinners?

How does this story link to other stories that we have been learning about?

What kind of world did Jesus want?
