Science - Planting Experiment

This week, we are going to look at our plants a little differently.  Rather than doing a video, I have taken pictures of each plant!

We have been much more successful with these seeds and I think you will be shocked to see the results.... I know I was! Wow!!!

Underneath, I have put the picture of each plant, with a copy of the results table showing you where to add your results and then I have attached another copy of the blank results table incase you need it.

Happy observing!

1. In the sun with water

2. In the sun with NO water

3. In the shade with water

4. In the shade with NO water

5. In the cold and dark with water

Science - Seed Packets!

This week for our science work we are going to look at different seed packets.

Seed packets help us to find out lots of information.

They tell us:

  • When we should plant the seeds
  • How long they will take to grow
  • How to look after them
  • Whether they need sun / water / shade
  • How big they will get
  • What colour they will be
  • What they will look like

Here are some seed packets with this information

  • This tells us that we should sow 'plant' this seed in January to April.  We can see this by the chart with the Pink squares.
  • Then we should see flowers from July to October.
  • At the side of the chart it also tells us that this plant likes some sun but not too sunny (We can see this from the little sun diagram that is half yellow and half black).
  • You can also see that the flowers will grow up to 75cm tall.
  • The instructions then tell us how to plant and grow these flowers.  In here it tells us that we should see the little seedlings (shoots) come out from the soil in 21-35 days.

Can you find all these facts?

  • This tells us that we should sow 'plant' this seed in March or April.  We can see this by the chart with the Pink squares.
  • Then we should see flowers from June to October.
  • At the side of the chart it also tells us that this plant likes lots of sunshine (We can see this from the little sun diagram that is all bright yellow).
  • You can also see that the flowers will grow up to 300cm tall. (That is really tall!!!)
  • The instructions then tell us how to plant and grow these flowers.  In here it tells us that we should see the little seedlings (shoots) come out from the soil in 14-21 days.

Can you find all these facts?

Here are some more seed packets.  Can you find out the facts above on these seed packets.  One is a little different (a challenge) so you may have to look harder for the information.

Can you Design your own seed packet?

Below are some templates that you can use to create your own seed packet.

You can use these, or you could use an envelope to make your own.

You can either research your own seeds, or you can make up a plant of your own!

Put these on the blog so I can see what you have made!
