Today we’re talking about cohesion!
When the ideas within paragraphs link well together we say the paragraph has cohesion. You can think of cohesion like glue holding the text together. You can connect ideas in separate sentences by using connecting adverbs.
Read the extract below and list the connecting adverbs / adverbials that you can see. I've put the answers in the document below. Once you've done that, have a go at writing your own diary entry and make sure you include high level adverbs to join your ideas together.

On the other hand, she just trying to keep me safe and I understand that. Furthermore, granny is fully aware of what happened to my father and is going to be extra cautious when I say that I want to follow in his footsteps and become a famous inventor.
However, she can’t assume that I am going to make the same grave errors, he did. Besides, I am extra safe when I am working! I’ve put a lot of effort into personal protective equipment such as gloves, goggles and overhauls. In fact, I spend a lot of my pocket money on the latest protective gear.
Anyway, I’ll have to muster up the courage to speak to granny. Whatever I decide to do, I am sure she’ll stand by me.
