Hello and welcome to Year 1 Green. We are really looking forward to getting to know our new children and families and have already had a fantastic start to the year. The Year 1 curriculum builds on the experiences that the children have had in Reception and develops a more formal style of learning alongside the continuous provision which the children are used to. We hope the new challenges of Year One ensure your child remains motivated and enthused and makes good progress towards the end of year expectations.

Please try to read with your child at least 3 times a week. Your child should bring their reading book to school every day. They will read to an adult in school once a week and have their book changed. We encourage children to read their books at least twice to build on fluency and secure word recognition.
Children will have daily phonics lessons where they will learn the different sounds that make words. They will blend them together to read real words and ‘alien’ words. This will build up to the end of year 1 phonics screening test the children will do in June 2020.
If you have anything you need to discuss with us, please make an appointment and we will be happy to meet with you.
